We are not Amish - although our own culture has a great many parallels - but this film is so inspiring and heartwarming, despite the controversies that the family who participated in it had risked by allowing film cameras to capture their lives for the TV (like us, most Amish people do not have photographs or pictures of themselves, for it is considered to be immodest). We watched this yesterday afternoon and very much enjoyed it. How sad we are that the few TV programmes that purport to represent the lifestyle and traditions of people of our own culture do not inspire but instead shock and amuse. Maybe other Amish families would say the same about this programme - I hope not. We found it to be very positive.
